- For terrestrial broadcasts, a licence fee of ¥1395 per month or ¥15490 per annum pays for the NHK channels.
- For satellite broadcasts, the NHK licence fee is ¥2340 per month or ¥26100 per annum.
- Apart from WOWOW, the satellite channels listed above are free-to-air. The only charges incurred for receiving these channels are the NHK licence fee and equipment costs. This corresponds roughly to the situation of Freesat in the United Kingdom.
