List of Phonics Programs

There is a relatively small body of very complete programs that have been widely used in schools and clinics that teach students with reading difficulty. These are listed below. There is an increasing number of programs available for computers and online. The quality of these products varies dramatically.
Widely-Used Phonics Curricula
- Breaking the Code, a product closely related to Open Court Reading, but which is a stand-alone phonics intervention designed especially for older struggling readers
- Hooked on Phonics
- Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS) Program, previously known as Auditory Discrimination in Depth, ADD
- Open Court Reading, a comprehensive reading curriculum, the phonics component of which is very well-known. The publisher, SRA/McGraw-Hill, sells the phonics component as a stand-alone program as well.
- Orton-Gillingham, an approach to reading instruction upon which several phonics programs are based.
- Reading Mastery by SRA/McGraw-Hill, previously known as DISTAR
- Spalding Method
- Wilson Reading System
Although widely used, Reading Recovery is not a phonics program.
