[edit] Samoa Broadcasting Corporation (SBC)
SBC is Samoa's public broadcaster, whose television operations began in 1993.
[edit] O Lau TV
A new Samoan free to air TV station established and first went on air in early-2006. It is Samoa's second but first independent TV station. It runs for 24 hours and leases equipment from GBN.
Lau TV debuted to Samoan audiences during the lead up to the elections of 2006. It has since forced SBC to broadcast fair media coverage.
[edit] TV3
The Keil family privately owned TV station established it presence in the air in May 2006. It broadcasts SamoaTel Showtime competing against SBC's Starsearch and Manuo competing against SBC's Lali.
It operates from 6am to 12pm and is Samoa's third news provider competing against SBC's Tala Fou and Lau TV News. Though TV3 News is special because it broadcasts news as it happens.
In recent years came the establishment of the new teen program "Teen 90", a poorly rated show, which arguably not only led to the demise of the teen programming schedule of TV3, but also the youth of Western Samoa. This poor performance was widely put down to poor hosting and production values. One of the numerous hosts, Charlene "Fonzy" Lafaele, left the country in response to the apparent poor performance of the show.
[edit] CCTV-9
China's state-run broddaster relays its content on Samoa's free to air UHF frequency. It carries international and Chinese programme that are in the English language. It debuted in Samoa in mid-2005. It is unclear if the Chinese government owns the relay, or if it's owned by a local broadcaster.
