Talk:List of Syriacs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
this article should be removed, due to that there alwready is an category that lists all syriac people.
- I disagree. Category:Syriacs is intended to group all articles relating to the Syriac people, List of Syriacs is a structured list of famous Syriacs. Compare e.g. List of Hungarians vs. Category:Hungarian_people.
- I would like to transfer or copy some people from the List of Assyrians to the List of Syriacs, for example Naum Faiq, who --according to a book I read about him-- has worked for Suryoyo, Aramean, and Assyrian organisations and newspapers. ---Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 08:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
I dont really see the difference, due to that the list will almost be the same. But sure we can work on the list of Syriacs. But then I agree with you that we should merge list of arameans, assyrians, chaldeans, maronite if they exists to list of syriacsMichael 09:09, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- The advantage of a structured list is that it provides the reader with more information about the people concerned. Years of birth and death could be included, for example. Another advantage is that the history of lists can be viewed, which can be useful when users delete people from the list. See Wikipedia:Lists for more details.
- I don't think it's absolutely necessary to merge the List of Syriacs with the List of Assyrians, there could be some overlap. However, I would like to include in the List of Assyrians solely those Syriacs who explicitly call themselves "Assyrians". That doesn't seem to be the case now. ---Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 09:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
