Numerous notable names are missing (i.e. Vance); and Cyclone John 1999 has a statement something along the lines of (strongest ever to that date), which is utterly false; it was a Category 3...John.Gavirulax 15:28, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

The Emergency Management Australia database entry on Cyclone John states:

The Pilbara towns of Karratha and Roebourne were spared the full fury of Cyclone John on Wednesday 15 December when Australia's strongest cyclone to date (with winds gusting to 290 km/h) to cross the coast veered east and crossed in an isolated location about 100km away.

Well, in this case we appear to have two conflicting Government organisations. [1]

My above statement about it being Category 3 is incorrect. However, I highly doubt it's the strongest in Australia to that date, as Cyclone Thelma and Cyclone Vance both has winds equal, or above it. I tried searching up details of news reports, and all I found was "Cyclone John is as strong as Cyclones get, with 290km/h winds" (which alone is wrong as Monica had 360km/h, though that was of course after). But Cyclone Thelma has winds gusting to 320 km/h just a year before it.Gavirulax 03:08, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

It is evident from other entries in that database that the summaries provided by the EMA are excerpts from news reports, rather than their own words. Possibly they have misquoted a report, or quoted out of context. Perhaps what was meant was that it was Australia's strongest cyclone to date for that season.

This is your area of specialty, not mine, so feel free to do what you think best in reconciling the two sources.
