Talk:List of food pairs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't know how it works for all of these in British English, but in American English, many of these pairs are only used in the order they're listed - i.e., they are almost never said the other way round. Examples: spaghetti and meatballs, chicken and biscuits, oil and vinegar, ham and eggs (unless you're Dr. Seuss). It's interesting that it's wine and cheese, but cheese and crackers; toast and jam, but tea and toast. And cake and coffee, but tea and cakes. Some speech expert must know why, somewhere. --Mothperson 17:16, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
