Talk:List of municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region

[edit] Origin of names
I removed "being the Dutch name of origin" since at least one municipality, i.e. Evere, is of Celtic origin (source in French and Dutch: Official web site in page "Histoire/Geschiedenis"). -- Edcolins 13:16, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Remove matter
I've removed the following paragraph (it should be merged if appropriate in the history section of Brussels article):
"All municipalities in Brussels are officially bilingual. Among the population, roughly 15 to 20% (no official figures are available) is supposed to have Dutch as mother tongue, some 70% French and remaining percentages Turkish, berber, Arabic, Italian, Spannish etc. In practice, there is a strong nationalist pressure from French-speakers against this official bilingual status. As a result, many local public services have a reputation for discriminating against Flemings, and some also for even worse discriminations against guest-workers and their families (the so-called 'allochtonen' in Dutch and 'allochtones' in French). Early 90's, an official declaration from the regional government confirmed that social housing was reserved for 100% for those applying in French. As late as 2003, Rudy Demotte, the national minister of Public Health and a French-speaking socialist, explicitely acknowledged that urgent medical services (in hopsitals) were still massively discriminating against Flemings."
It was not appropriate to it in the front of the article. --Edcolins 20:17, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)
