Talk:List of songs with historical references
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Criteria
The criteria stated on the main page isn't exactly right. Maybe "list of trivia references" would be more accurate. In my mind, songs that go here should clearly make listeners want to jump up and grab their encyclopedia (which is why the list is perfect for Wikipedia), and the author's main intent seems to be that they want to show they're clearly well-read and/or in tune with culture.
I guess it can include name-dropping in general, though many songs name-drop, but not necessarily to the extent that or "A Simple Desultory Philippic" or "One Week" do, so hopefully there's a gray-ish line there somewhere. --Interiot 14:13, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Not currently included
Songs which could possibly be included, but aren't currently:
- "1985" by Bowling for Soup [1] (musical references only, though maybe not significantly fewer references than "One Week" has)
- "The Bad Touch" by The Bloodhound Gang
[edit] Moved from main page
The following were added to the main page, but then moved here, as it wasn't clear that they fit.
- Destiny Calling by James (under "a more narrow historical event")
