Lochinvar National Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lochinvar National Park lies south west of Lusaka in Zambia, on the south bank of the Kafue River.
From north to south, the national park has three main ecoregions: a flood plain adjoining the river, including the Chunga Lagoon; a dry grassland dominated by termite mounds, and woodland.
A former ranch, the park was designated in 1972 and is known for its Kafue lechwe. As the ranchers killed most of the area's predators, it is also a haven for birds, while it is also home to hot springs, echoing rocks, remains of a Neolithic settlement and an Iron Age village on Sebanzi Hill, also known for its caves, ancient baobab and wildlife.
