[edit] Username, editing habits
Hi, your username has been brought to the attention of others at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. It is usually inappropriate to adopt the name of a company or other commercial enterprise as a username, and from your editing history it appears that you are connected to Logan University / Chiropractic College. Wikipedia:Conflict of interest will explain more about when you should and shouldn't write about subjects you are closely connected to.
I notice you have removed previous posts from this talk page without comment. As this note is in relation to a current Request for Comment it would be appreciated if you would leave this on the page. You are of course welcome to reply or state any reasons why you believe your username is appropriate. I've agreed that the username is likely inappropriate, if another administrator deems the username to be a violation of the Username policy, either with or without reference to the current RfC debate, your account could be blocked. [edit] Username Usability
Thank you for your comments on the username "loganuniversity". It may seem innappropriate to use this name that is closely resembling Logan University - College of Chiropractic. As an Administrator at Logan University - College of Chiropractic, I am in a unique position to provide accurate information on the history and specifics of the University for the readers of Wikipedia. I could have registered myself as a personal user, but I thought it appropriate for others to know who was posting the information. My University profile can be found at http://www.logan.edu/pages/robsmith.asp
As for editing this page by removing previous comments, I was simply cleaning up the information as I thought the issues were resolved. As a new user I am constantly refining my information and that of the information on the University. I am sorry for the confusion.

- Fair enough. There is consensus on Wikipedia that it is undesirable for people closely connected with a topic to edit that topic, as pointed out in the WP:COI guideline. Given your username and apparent single purpose of your account this has been easy to identify. If you wish to continue editing on this subject you should be very careful to only make edits which are backed up by verifiable sources (WP:V, WP:RS), and avoid "namechecking" or "showcasing", ie giving names of individuals who would not pass WP:BIO or listing products and services. You should also use discussion pages to propose additions or changes before making them. The rule of thumb is that if something is important to the point of being encyclopedic, someone else will write about it. Deizio talk 15:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Your case at WP:RFC/NAME has been provisionally closed. Thanks for your submission there. If you would be willing to open a new account with a username compliant with Wikipedia:Username and be careful to respect the WP:COI guideline when editing on topics you are are connected to, we can all move on. - Your comments on this page seem to be different from those on the Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names page. From the comments on this page I get the idea that the guidelines need to be followed but the username was acceptable. Not sure I get the logic. Also, your comment "The rule of thumb is that if something is important to the point of being encyclopedic, someone else will write about it" is not totally accurate. I thought this forum (Wikipedia) was in place to add relevant information about pertinent items. I'm sure we could wait for a user to add the information or have the information added by someone who actually knows the information inside and out who can verify things. Which makes more sense? I choose the later. I understand your view to keep the information enclyclopedic and the information out there right now is in that format much like pages from other universities. Again I appreciated your comments but don't agree with you on the username. Loganuniversity 16:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Confused?
I don't understand your confusion. There are two issues here:
-
- Username - Usernames should not be the names of commercial organisations. Accounts can be blocked for contravention of this policy. Consensus thus far at WP:RFC/NAME appears to be that your username is inappropriate. This is a policy, and can therefore be acted upon in cases of non-compliance with a block or ban. In short, if you don't voluntarily adopt a new name your account may be blocked anyway.
- Conflict of Interest - Editors are strongly discouraged from writing about topics they are closely connected to, such as a company they work for. This is to ensure neutrality, and while I appreciate you have a view on how information can be quickly inserted by insiders there is substantial WP consensus against this being desirable. This is a guideline, and therefore writing about yourself or your company is not strictly forbidden but will probably lead to your edits being closely scrutinised.
The raft of Wikipedia policies and guidelines can be tricky to get a handle on at first, but any mistakes or queries made in good faith are always welcome. Now that you are aware of the situation and relevant policies, it is up to you to decide how to move forward. Myself and the other editors / administrators who have passed comments at RFC/NAME are very experienced in these matters, and cases like yours come up on a weekly basis. Some users never quite get it and leave the project or get blocked, others pick up on the spirit and goals of Wikipedia and become great editors. Deizio talk 17:08, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RfC closed
Hi, per username policy and consensus at WP:RFC/NAME, it would be appreciated if you would choose a new username. This name is inappropriate and has been blocked indefinitely. Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you continue to contribute. Deizio talk 03:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
