Route 607 is one of the few limited stop services in London, and was created in 1990 to act as an express service for route 207 between Shepherd's Bush Green & Uxbridge.

When route 207 gained articulated Citaros, route 607 gained the Dennis Trident 2 10.5m /Plaxton President (TNLs) from the route and route 427 replaced the Uxbridge to Acton section of route 207.

TfL are proposing to build a tram between Shepherd's Bush and Uxbridge, running along the Uxbridge Road through Acton, Ealing, Hanwell, Southall and Hayes End. The West London Tram would run along the current routes 207, 427 and 607, replacing them. Trams would be able to carry more passengers and TfL claim a more reliable service, but there is considerable opposition to the scheme in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hillingdon.

If the scheme was to go ahead, it would revive a tram route established in 1904 which was replaced by a trolleybus route number 607 in 1936, which was then superseded by a bus route in 1960.
