[edit] New age
Shouldn't Loreena McKennitt's albums be classified as New Age instead of the current "Folk" Genre? Stoa 06:28, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Some of her songs are "new-agey", but that's not really her genre. Her songs can mostly be classified as "folk" music or "national" music. —Sesel 06:55, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- I can see how some of her albums can be labeled as folk, but I don't agree that all of them are. For e.g, The Mask and Mirror, with the exception of one or two songs, is really not all completely folk or celtic, but has songs that would be classified by some as New Age. I guess what I'm saying is, would it be incorrect to have both genres listed under some of her albums? Stoa 17:35, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- I feel that her style is very much a mix of various different styles, including Folk, Celtic, New Age, and others. This means that her songs are going to vary widely between them, with varing degrees of each style within each, so it's not possible, or right, to try and say that she is just Folk, or just New Age, because she's both, and so much more. On top of that, the line between Folk, and New Age is rather subjective to begin with. Definitely use both. Nekura 17:56, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Loreena McKennitt does not classify her work as New Age. She refers to her creations as Celtic or World Music when it must be classified. I think the reference on the page which states her music is New Age should be removed and replaced with World or Celtic...

What she says doesn't matter. Her music has been officially classified by experts in different genres, and her music is not part of only one qualification, which is why we have classified them as celtic, new age and world music. Kiske 02:36, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
