Lothersdale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lothersdale is a small village near Skipton, North Yorkshire which is located within the triangle formed by Skipton, Cross Hills and Colne. It is a small community of about 200 houses but local amenities include a park, church, chapel, pub, village hall, club house and primary school The Pennine Way runs through it.
The parish council has 5 elected members and meets on the second Thursday of each month (except for August) at 7.30 pm. It decides on the amount of local taxes (the precept), planning applications, and numerous other issues pertaining to local life.
Much of the village does not have mains water or sewage - this has had the effect of limiting the amount of development that has taken place, giving the village an 'unspoilt' atmosphere.
The village pub (the Hare and Hounds)is a good stopping-off point for food - 'hearty' is probably a good way to describe the fare on offer, whilst beers served include Tetley and Adnams.
The village also offers year-round trout and coarse fishing at Raygill and good rail connections (two miles away in Cononley) to Leeds and Bradford. Access to Manchester is via the M60 Motorway at Colne.
