Louis Quilico

Louis Quilico (January 14, 1925 - July 15, 2000) was a Canadian baritone opera singer.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, he retired from the Metropolitan Opera in 1998 after 25 seasons. In 1974 he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
He was married to concert pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico, with whom he recorded 4 CDs and filmed a video. She is the author of Louis Quilico's official biography Mr. Rigoletto: In Conversation with Louis Quilico (Captus Press). He was the father of Gino Quilico, also an operatic baritone who sings a great deal in Europe including La Scala, Milan.
Louis Quilico's latest CDs were Mr. Rigoletto:My Life in Music, Chants Français et Russes, Two of a Kind and Vocal Gems all with his wife, Christina Quilico. His latest opera CDs were The Most Happy Fella by Frank Loesser for Jay Records and The Three Queens for Deutsche Grammophon. His widow, Christina established the Christina & Louis Quilico Awards at the Ontario Arts Foundation for young singers and pianists. Louis Quilico spent many summers teaching in Israel. He died as a result of complications following an operation on his knee(s).
