[edit] History
Louisville was originally spelled Lewisville, which is the German spelling. The name had to be changed due to a conflict with the U.S. Post Office. It is still, however, pronounced the old way rather than like the French-named city Louisville, Kentucky.
Olga T. Weber, a Louisville resident, urged the United States Senate to create Constitution Week, which later was signed into law by President Dwight Eisenhower. [1]
[edit] Schools
The Louisville City School District is comprised of six schools. The four elementaries are located throughout the city and Nimishillen Township: Fairhope, Pleasant Grove, Louisville Elementary, and North Nimishillen. The middle school was recently built behind the high school near the Louisville YMCA. The school district is currently trying to pass a 9.8 mil operating levy. The levy failed by a large margin in the November 2006 election. Due to the failure of the school levy, the high school enacted a pay to participate fee of $350 for all 2007 spring sports. There is also a $100 fee for all middle school athletes to participate in Track & Field.
