Part of New York City's "anti-folk" scene, Lowry orbits around namesake singer-songwriter-guitarist Alex Lowry. Lowry also includes Nicolas Webber on piano, Crash on drums, Shawn Setaro on bass, Claire Bowman on vocals and Sarah Bowman on cello and vocals (the latter two also perform as The Bowmans.) Their 2005 album Awful Joy, which blended alt-country, psychedelica and rock was named "Local release of the year" by Urban Folk Magazine.
