[edit] History
In 1992, the LSU Board of Supervisors approved the creation of the LSU Honors College. Its initial location was the building that was once the former home of the University President. In 1999, the Honors College moved into the French House of the LSU Campus where it is currently located. Years later, Nancy Clark arrived as dean.
[edit] Today
Today, the LSU Honors College has a student enrollment of approximately 2,000. Although the Honors College accepts continuing and transfer students, most of its student body enrolls as incoming Freshmen. Recommended SAT Scores (V+M) and GPA for prospective High School students are 1320 and 3.5 respectively. The LSU Honors College has two distinctions known as Sophomore Honor Distinction and Upper Division Honor Distinction that undergraduates can work toward by taking required honors classes, keeping certain grade point averages, and completing research. Students that attain both graduate with College Honors--a designation that appears on their diploma. The LSU Honors College has a reputation for producing the university's national scholars (Rhodes, Mellon, Goldwater, among others).
