Lucas Eugene Scott is a fictional character on the CW television series One Tree Hill, played by Chad Michael Murray. Lucas is Nathan Scott’s half brother and former rival, and must balance his tumultuous relationships with his father Dan Scott and the two girls in his life, Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis.

Lucas Scott is the son of Dan Scott (Paul Johansson) and Karen Roe (Moira Kelly), and the nephew of Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer); he has a younger half brother, Nathan Scott (James Lafferty). He was raised by his mother after his father abandoned them to marry Deb Lee (Barbara Alyn Woods), Nathan’s mother; uncle Keith, who has always had a crush on Karen, took over the father’s figure. Lucas grew up in Tree Hill, a small North Carolina town, along with his best friend Haley James (Bethany Joy Galeotti).
He is interested in literature and basketball. At the beginning of season one, Lucas is recruited by coach Whitey Durham (Barry Corbin) to play in the Ravens basketball team after most of the players are suspended for drunk-driving. He soon has troubles with his half brother Nathan – who is also the Ravens captain – because Nathan wants to remain the star of the team and feels threatened by Lucas's arrival. He is also attracted to Peyton Sawyer (Nathan's girlfriend) and has a fling with her after she breaks up with Nathan, only to have her cut it off because she doesn't want anything serious and she was scared.

At the beginning of season one, Lucas is recruited by coach Whitey Durham (Barry Corbin) to play in the Ravens basketball team after most of the players are suspended for drunk-driving. He soon has troubles with his half brother Nathan – who is also the Ravens captain – because Nathan wants to remain the star of the team and feels threatened by Lucas's arrival. He is also attracted to Peyton Sawyer (Nathan's girlfriend) and has a fling with her after she breaks up with Nathan, only to have her cut it off because she doesn't want anything serious and she was scared.
He then hooks up with Brooke Davis, but Peyton after she realises the mistake she has made tries to get back with him. After a night spent in a motel together, Peyton kissed Lucas causing sparks to light up between them. Lucas realised that he wanted to be with Peyton. But due to the complicated relationships with Brooke they found it hard to tell her, about their feelings with each other. So for a while they saw each other behind Brooke's back. On the night that Peyton was about to tell Brooke about their relationship, Lucas wass involved in a car accident, Keith had been drinking as he was nervous about seeing Lucas's mom who had gone to Italy for 6 weeks. Lucas was actually saved by Dan who was present at the scene, and for the first time in the series called Lucas his son, so that Lucas could get immediate treatment. After Lucas wakes up from a short coma he breaks up with Brooke to be with Peyton, but Brooke discovers everything and ends her friendship with Peyton and any sort of relationship with Lucas (she had agreed to be his friend before she knew). Feeling frustrated with his injury and alone, he went to a bar, where he met Nicki (Emmanuelle Vaugier) and they had a one night stand. When Peyton found out about this, she rejected Lucas's friendship and regained her friendship with Brooke. They all stay at odds until he decides to leave Tree Hill as he is concerned about the person he wass becoming, and at the end of the season leaves with Keith because he wants to start over and become a better person. His relationship with Nathan also improves since they both realise that they have much in common, including hatred towards Dan, but also their relationships with Haley. She brings them together through her relationship with Nathan and at the end they share a poignant moment, when Nathan calls him his brother and Lucas does the same.

In season 2 he comes back to Tree Hill because of Dan's heart attack and because he wants to see how Nathan is coping. As relationships with Peyton and Brooke are back to being friendships he hooks up with school newbie Anna Taggaro. But soon realises that he still loves Brooke and begins to focus more on building on a relationship with her, eventhough she goes out with Felix. When Haley goes on a tour with the Wreckers, Nathan spirals downward and this slowly builds a new rift between the brothers. Lucas finds out that he inherited Dan's HCM but does not tell anyone.
He is forced by Dan to live in his home because of his sickness (Dan buys Lucas's medication for him) and to protect Keith whose girlfriend was actually hired by Dan. This sets him at odds with his mother as she can't believe that after all Dan had done, that Lucas would want to move in with Dan. He reconciles with her towards the end of the season as he tells her the true reason why he is staying with Dan, which is to protect Keith. He discovers Deb's medicament addiction and decides to avenge all of Dan's victims, but ultimately fails. Losing Dan's College fund for him (which Dan had supposedly set up for him when Lucas was younger) and Nathan's friendship, since the latter was trying to rebuild his old family, to make life better for his mom Deb. And Lucas had gone and visited Haley in New York behind Nathan's back. Nathan after being told by Lucas himself of his plans to bring down Dan felt as though he couldn't trust Lucas and he didn't need any more people like that in his life. Lucas does however in the season finale kiss Brooke and confesses that he wants to be with her, but she still leaves for California, to spend the summer with her parents. Ultimately it is just him and Peyton for the summer.

In season 3 he begins a non exclusive relationship with Brooke and uses Rachel to make her jealous but a series of events leads Brooke to sleep with Chris Keller, tearing them apart. He forgives her after she gives him the 82 letters she wrote to him during her holidays and didn't send. The Chris Keller incident also reunites him with Nathan. They had an awkward beginning with Nathan rejecting Lucas's attempts at making peace and getting back to the way they were in Season 2. The issue of Haley caused a big problem which was later resolved.
His mother and Keith finally got together and they were engaged, Keith was also going to adopt him, but Keith was killed by Dan who held Keith responsible for the dealership fire (although it was Deb), which Lucas saved him from. Lucas has a hard time trying to heal from that death, as Keith was the primary father figure in his life (but he doesn't know Dan was the murderer) but thanks to Whitey, Deb and Haley he gets over it. After seeing the effect of Keith's death on his mother he decided to finally tell, whitey, Nathan and his mother about his HCM (which he has from Dan) and quits basketball. He went on a university tour with his mother and realised that he wanted to become a writer. He also is Nathan's best man for the wedding. His relationship with Brooke though doesn't end well in the season finale. As Brooke finds out that he kissed Peyton at the school shooting.

In season 4, Lucas is trying to get Brooke back but realizes it is not what she wants and maybe it is not what is meant to be. He recently protected Peyton once more (as she puts it he is always saving her) from an internet stalker "WATCHMEWATCHU" or "Psycho Derek". Lucas is helping his mom with her pregnancy and plans on going to the University of North Carolina when he graduates so that he can be close to home, in case she needs him. His Mom and Whitey also decide to let Lucas play 15 minutes a game, as his mom doesn't want Lucas to completely miss out on something he loves. Brooke and Lucas try again to have a relationship, after a fling with her teacher but thanks to one of Whitey's speech they realise they are over, prompting Peyton to confess her feelings for him. He then discovers that Nathan is planning to throw the statechampionship game because of his debts and plans to prevents this, but Nathan is inspired by learning he's going to have a son and they win, with Lucas making the winning shot.
During the celebration he realizes that it's been Peyton all along and tells her that "she is the one he wants standing next to him, when all his dreams come true. They become a happy couple at the after party, until Haley gets hit by a car and Lucas tries to tell the paramedics what happened only to suffer a heart attack. As he is in the hospital Lucas dreams that he is visited by Keith because he begins to lose faith as so many bad things were happening to good people. Keith then shows him what life would have been like if he had been a lesser person. In the end Lucas realizes he has to go back to his life because he never told Peyton that he loved her. He then forgives Jimmy as Keith told him that he wasn't killed by him and begins a relationship with Peyton. Thanks to an assignment he then bonds with Glenda Farrell. He entrusts her the first draft of his novel. Even though Keith sends him signals about his death, he starts getting close with Dan, who tells Karen he wants a bigger part in Lucas' life.

- Lucas drove a Chevrolet 50th Anniversary C5 Corvette Convertible, in which was given to him by his father. He now drives a 1967 Ford Mustang.
- Lucas, until it was revealed Brooke and Nathan had hooked up, was the only male character to have kissed every teen lead (Peyton, Haley, Rachel and Brooke).
- Lucas' middle name Eugene is the name of his maternal great-grandfather Eugene Roe. Eugine gave Karen money to help open the cafe when she was pregnant and became a single parent. Eugene said this was a "business venture" as he owned many small buissinesses. When Lucas was two years old Eugene sold all of his businesses and gave Karen full ownership of the cafe. Eugene and his wife Karen (Karen's mother and Lucas' maternal grandmother) moved to Dallas, Texas where Eugene grew up. When Lucas was four Eugene had a stroke and shortly after a heart-attack. Then Oliver and Cynthia (Karen's parents and Eugene's son and daughter-in-law) went to Dallas to supposedly "help out" Eugene and Karen. However they moved there because Oliver and Cynthia were embarrassed of their daughter and grand-son. Since then Eugene has sent Karen and Lucas money every four months without Karen's parents knowing. Eugene offered to pay for Lucas to go to college but Karen turned down this offer saying that Eugene had done enough for her and Lucas over the years and because Keith had already left money for Lucas to go to college. Eugene would more than love to visit his great-grandson and his granddaughter, however he is weakened because of his age and because of the stroke and heart-attack.
- Keith became "blood brothers" when Lucas was four for cutting himself deliberately after Lucas' finger was caught up in a hook while they were fishing with Karen.
