Talk:Máire Nic an Bhaird

[edit] What is her name
"Nic An Bhaird" or "Nic an Bhaird"? The former is current form in title of article, the latter is form in CARN. Thoughts? ~ Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 05:05, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- A chara, its looking like a capital A.--Vintagekits 15:48, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

- Vintagekits, your argument is a little underdeveloped; also you only changed the first of several instances of the name. I have standardised at "Nic an Bhaird" for the moment for the sake of standardisation. Since the sources disagree, I would place more confidence in the spelling adopted by Irish language sources than English language ones. That said, I don't mind if you want to fully change the title and every instance to "Nic An Bhaird", though a longer justification would be nice. Someone of the same name (same person?) in UCD has her name spelt on their site with "A" on a bilingual page [1] and "a" on an Irish one [2]
The current English gloss — by me :( — is "Mary Ward"; has she ever been legally or otherwise known as "Mary/Maire/Maura/Moira Ward"? If so, we should give the appropriate gloss; if not, should we perhaps remove it altogether? jnestorius(talk) 16:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have only heard her referred to by the Irish form. There hasn't been an extensive amount of coverage of the case, though. I'll see if I can find anything else today. ~ Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 17:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

- A google search turned up an e-mail address that appears to be her, which uses "moira ward", so I've changed "Mary" to "Moira". I've also added a couple of external links. I don't think the Eurolang link really adds anything in terms of additional information; however, I think it's relevant in that is shows other language groups besides the Irish are covering the case. ~ Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 21:41, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK, now I'm not so sure, the Máire Nic an Bhaird who has the "moira ward" e-mail is a teacher, but at UC Dublin. I guess I could e-mail her and ask... ~ Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 21:52, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, El chulito, I'm a bit unclear about what you're doing with the cats. The CARN article I have here says she's a schoolteacher. Also, I thought the language cats applied to articles that discuss language issues. If not, and the cats are only for the language itself, why do we need a category for multiple pages? I'm not trying to be difficult, I just don't understand the reasoning here. Thanks, ~ Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 05:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
