From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Macau telephone numbering plan remains separate from that of mainland China, as Macau, like Hong Kong, is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

[edit] Before March 2007
Prior to March 2007, telephone numbers varied in length:
- Fixed line numbers are mostly six digits long
- Mobile (cellular) phone numbers are seven digits
Fixed line numbers start with any digit except 0, 1, or 6, while mobile (cellular) phone numbers start with 6.
[edit] Changes as of March 2007
- 28 will be prepended to all fixed line phone numbers
- 6 will be prepended to all mobile phone numbers
thus making all phone numbers in Macau 8 digits long.
[edit] International calling
- All destinations except Hong Kong (including mainland China): Dial the international access code 00, followed by the country code, area code, and called party's number.
- Hong Kong: Dial 01 followed by the called party's number.
[edit] Emergency services and other special numbers
Same as Hong Kong, the telephone number for emergency services --- Police, Fire Service and Ambulance --- is 999.
Some special numbers are 3-digit or 4-digit.
