Machnovka (Hasidic dynasty)

The chasidic dynasty of Machnovka (various spellings) is a part of the Chernobyl dynastic group of families. It takes its name from the village Makhnivke in the Ukraine, where its founder lived. Machnovka is an extant chasidic group which survived the Holocaust. Its chasidic court is now located in Bnei Brak, Israel.
Machnovka is a sub-dynasty of Skver. It is a living legacy of the unique culture of the Polish and Ukrainian chasidic dynasties.
The present Machnovker Rebbe is a scion of the Belz dynasty.

The founder the Chernobyl dynasty was Rebbe (Menachem) Nachum of Chernobyl, a disciple of Rabbi Yisroel ben Eliezer, the Baal Shem Tov, who established the Chasidic movement
- Grand Rabbi Menachem Nochum Twersky of Chernobyl - author of Meor Einayim, disciple of the Baal Shem Tov
- Grand Rabbi Mordechai Twersky the "Maggid of Chernobyl", son of the Meor Einayim – had eight sons who each became a rebbe and started his own dynasty.
- Grand Rabbi Yitschok Twersky of Skver, son of the Maggid of Chernobyl
- Grand Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshl Twersky (1826-1886) of Skver, son of Rabbi Yitschok
- Grand Rabbi Yoseph Meir Twersky (1860-1918) of Machnovka, son of Rabbi Abraham Yehoshua Heshl of Skver
- Grand Rabbi Menachem Nochum Twersky (1880-1945) of Skver-Machnovka, son-in-law of Rabbi Yoseph Meir of Machnovka

The lineage of the present Machnovker Rebbe from the Belz dynasty is as follows:
- Grand Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, author of Sar Shalom, the first Belzer Rebbe, a disciple of the Seer of Lublin
- Grand Rabbi Joshua Rokeach, son of the Sar Shalom, second Belzer Rebbe
- Grand Rabbi Issachar Dov Rokeach, son of Rabbi Joshua, the third Belzer Rebbe. He first married Basia Rochma, daughter of Rabbi Yeshaya Meshullam Zusya Twersky. Then he married Chaya Devora of the Pychenik family of Brezena[1]. The Belz connection with Chernobyl was strong. Rabbi Issachar, though a Belzer Rebbe, was known as the “illui (prodigy) of Chernobyl,” where he lived for ten years. All of Rabbi Issachar's five daughters were married into the Chernobyl dynasty[2].
- Grand Rabbi Joshua Rokeach of Jaroslaw, son of Rabbi Issachar Dov of Belz (with his second wife). Rabbi Yehoshua married and then divorced Chana, daughter of the first Machnovker Rebbe, Yosef Meyer Twersky[3][4]
- Rabbi Isaac David Rokeach, son of Rebbe Yehoshua and Channa above.
- Grand Rabbi Joshua Rokeach, (born in Tel Aviv, 1949) of Machnovka-Bnei Brak[5] is the son of Rabbi Isaac David Rokeach, son of Channah Zosha above. He succeeded his great-uncle Rebbe Avraham Yehoshua Heshl Twersky as Machnovker Rebbe. He is the fourth and present Machnovker Rebbe.
