Magnolia, Texas

Magnolia is a city in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,111 at the 2000 census. It should also be noted that in the early 1900's, Magnolia was known as "Mink". The town was renamed in the mid 1900's.

Magnolia is located at GR1.
(30.210476, -95.750631)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²), all land except for two small lakes that are in the Windmill Estates subdivision.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,111 people, 411 households, and 309 families residing in the city. The population density was 204.3/km² (528.3/mi²). There were 460 housing units at an average density of 84.6/km² (218.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 85.69% White, 11.34% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 1.62% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.14% of the population.
There were 411 households out of which 38.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were married couples living together, 17.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% were non-families. 20.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,875, and the median income for a family was $50,417. Males had a median income of $45,083 versus $21,696 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,278. About 8.1% of families and 9.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 13.5% of those age 65 or over.

Magnolia schools are operated by the Magnolia Independent School District.
Montgomery County Memorial Library System operates the Malcom Purvis Branch in the city.
