In the very late 1970s I know we were considered a top school; sending many students to the top colleges and universities in Boston (5-10 to Harvard each year) and around the country. I would assume that because of the rich culture and diversity at MHS, that many of our students are still considered highly admissible.
This may be helpful, too. In 2004, 59% of Malden High School sophomores received a score at or above proficient in the English Language Arts section on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System compared to the state average of 65%. Also, 48% of Malden High School sophomores performed at or above proficient in the Math section on the MCAS compared to the state average of 62%. Woah! The Orange Line has had interrupted service evenings and weekends for the past few years? Can that be verified? I've been taking it for years and I've never noticed anything like that (at least recently; they did have some construction work at Malden Center but it's gone now.)
- I take it to work everyday. They have bus replacement (currently between Wellington and Oak Grove) Sunday through Thursday Nights, starting at 8:45, as well as some weekends. More details can be found on the MBTA's website.
2.17.07 UPDATE: I was born in Malden and have been studying Malden history since I could read. When I was elementary-school age my great-aunt would walk me to the Malden Library so I could demand Malden's 19th century map collection to review.
Anyway I got big plans for the wiki article and a new Malden book (expected publish date: Nov 2019, for the Xmas season) and wanted to added my personal knowledge as a well-informed local. I will add more info as I remember (and can back-up as a historian) but I always defer to previously published newspaper articles from the Malden News and Malden Observer, gov't maps, natural history studies and other citable works.
[edit] Neighborhoods
A few suggested changes: What's referred to here as the "Amerige" neighborhood has historically been called the West End, though Amerige Park is perhaps the biggest landmark; I'm a West End resident. Oak Grove, Island Hill, Bell Rock and Belmont Hill should be mentioned as neighborhoods; in fact, the Fire Department used to issue a booklet defining the geographic boundaries of Malden's neighborhoods. If I can dig it up, I'll add them here. Finally, Converse Square did not become Malden Square - it still exists, where Main, Salem and Ferry streets come together - Malden Square is the intersection of Main and Pleasant, generally encompassing the Pleasant Street business corridor. I'll wait to here from interested parties before presuming to make any changes ...

Yes I found some of the n'hood names incomplete/and or incorrect. Amirage as a n'hood name I never heard of, the West End is more apt, although we always traditionally considered Edgeworth part of the West End although the n'hood north of Pleasant St. is not part of Edgeworth.
I'm not familiar with the name Island Hill, perhaps it fell into disuse after the 60s?
