It is known far and wide as a legendary tourist destination, and is home of the world famous Mineral Spa, and Danceland dance hall. [edit] History
Little Manitou Lake was formed by receding glaciers during the most recent ice age. The lake is fed by underground springs, and has a mineral content high in sodium, magnesium and potassium due to it being a terminal lake. The salt content of the water gives it a density higher than that of the Dead Sea, allowing bathers to float easily. Early Plains Indians believed the waters had special healing powers; the name "Manitou" translates to "great spirit" in Cree. [1]
