Mano Negra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mano Negra was a legendary French band fronted by Manu Chao. The band was founded in 1987 by Manu, his brother Antoine, and his cousin Santiago Casariego. It split circa 1995, but many members had already left in 1992.
Mano Negra mixed a number of styles: Punk rock (influenced by The Clash), Reggae, Ska and Latin music (with a brass section). The band, which is still revered on three continents, had been among the pioneers of world music fusion and are a direct influence to countless bands in Europe and South America. The mix of African, Latin and other rhythms is often called mestizo or patchanka (which is the name of one of their albums).
The band's (and later Manu Chao) social stances have been held up by their followers as beacons in a business where profit/sales are considered to be the top priority.

La Mano Negra ("The Black Hand") was an alleged anarchist organization in Spain. The Spanish police accused most of the Spanish anarchists of being part of the organization.
It is also a common expression in Spanish to say "Aquí hubo mano negra" ("There was a black hand here") to say that something has been made illegally or lacking moral values.
