[edit] School Rivalry
The Mansfield school district was a one high school district for many years. But in 2002, students who would be seniors in the 2002-2003 school year had the option to choose which school they would graduate from. The Mansfield High School name moved over to a new building, while the old Mansfield High School building became the site for Summit High School.
The majority of seniors decided to stay at Mansfield High School to graduate with the name. But over 200 seniors decided to stay at the old building, which took on the new Summit name. The rivalry between the Mansfield Tigers and Summit Jaguars began with this split. Students at Summit High School felt the need to prove themselves worthy.
The Mansfield Summit football team went three rounds deep in the Class 5A-Division I state playoffs in 2004, winning its second straight district title. As of 2006, Mansfield Summit has never lost to Mansfield or Mansfield Timberview High School.
[edit] Achievements
In the 2006-2007 School Year, the Lady Jaguars Basketball team advanced to the state semifinals.
The Academic UIL team won the Sweepstakes Award at the District Meet.
[edit] Future
The Mansfield ISD was originally "one High School" district. But Summit High school opened in 2002 dividing former classmates into separate schools. Then in 2004, Timberview high school was opened, reopening the debacle of altering school lines to incorporate a better percentage of ethnic diversity between all three schools. By fall of 2007, a fourth high school, Legacy High School, will have opened in the area south of the 3 high schools. The Mansfield ISD is planning to open a new high school in 2011.
