Many Point Scout Camp
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Many Point Scout Camp is a Boy Scout camp located in Ponsford, Minnesota. Founded in 1946 by Boots Hanson and Wint Hartman, Many Point has welcomed Scouts from across the United States. It is owned and operated by Northern Star Council (formerly Viking Council). It takes its name from Many Point Lake, on which the camp owns several miles of shoreline. The camp encompasses approximately 2,400 acres, and borders the 143,000 acre Tamarack National Wildlife Refuge.
Many Point is open to both Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews. There are three subdivisions of the camp that potential Scout units may camp in which vary mainly in dining experience: Voyageur, Ten Chiefs, and Buckskin. Of these, Buckskin utilizes a dining hall; Voyageur and Ten Chiefs require much of the food preparation be done by Scouts in-site.
There is also a high adventure base known as Flintlock that serves Scouters staying at any of the three main camps. Flintlock offers many activities, including horseback riding, an overnight camp-out on a raft on Many Point Lake named Huck Finn, a team-building ropes course called C.O.P.E., and an 80 mile bike ride to Itasca State Park and back.
[edit] Many Point Rouser
- Many Point Scout Camp
- That's the place to be!
- It's where the best of Scouting goes,
- And that's the place for me.
- You hear the loon a-callin',
- And the Little Beaver roar,
- And you come again the legend says
- As all good Scouts of yore.
- Hey!
