MapleMusic Recordings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MapleMusic Recordings is a Toronto based record label, whose innovative web based marketing strategy has made them a major player in the Canadian music industry.
The MapleMusic label is a project of Canadian country-rock band Skydiggers and entrepreneur Grant Dexter. Other artists who have released albums on MapleMusic include Colin James, The Dears, Pilot Speed (formerly known as Pilate), Gordon Downie, Spirit of the West, Ridley Bent, Kinnie Starr, and the Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir.
Two singer-songwriters, however, have been particularly responsible for MapleMusic's success: Sam Roberts, who was transformed from a struggling independent musician to a Canadian rock icon practically overnight by his 2001 MapleMusic debut, The Inhuman Condition, and Kathleen Edwards, whose album Failer made her a critical favourite in 2003.
MapleMusic also operates an e-commerce portal, allowing Canadian artists not associated with MapleMusic's label to sell their CDs and merchandise through the site.
MapleMusic Recordings are distributed and marketed in Canada by Universal Music Canada.
