Marília Pêra (born on January 22, 1943 on Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro) is an award-winning Brazilian actress.[citation needed]

Marília Pêra was born on January 22, 1943 on Rio de Janeiro to actors Manuel Pêra and Dinorah Marzullo. Her sister is also an accomplished actress Sandra Pêra. She is the mother of actor Ricardo Graça Mello, and actresses Esperança Motta and Nina Morena.[citation needed]
In 1982 she became the first South American ever honored in North America with a Best Actress Prize, for Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco, by the National Society of Film Critics Awards.[citation needed]
She's regarded by the critics and by the public, as the most accomplished and versatile Brazilian actress after Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco.[citation needed]
She's also hailed as "one of the decade's (1980s) ten best actresses" by Pauline Kael.[citation needed]
After Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco (1981), Bar Esperança (1983) and Tieta do Agreste (1996), she became the most awarded Brazilian actress.[citation needed]
In Portuguese her lastname translates as "Pear", the fruit.[citation needed]
