Maresfield
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maresfield is a village and parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex, England. It lies 1.5 miles (2.4km) north of Uckfield on the A22 road, the main road being on a bypass to the west of the village. The name of the village derives from the Saxon word for marsh or pool. The nearby villages of Nutley and Fairwarp are included within Maresfield ecclesiastical parish.
The village is on the southern edge of Ashdown Forest which was a deer hunting reserve from the time of King Edward II of England. Iron has also played an important role in the history of the area.
At the centre of the village is the 17th century Chequers Inn.
Maresfield has its own school, Bonners Church of England school, but older children travel into Uckfield Community Technology College.
