Maria (cookie)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marías are a simple wheat flour and sugar based cookie, tasting like animal crackers or English biscuits. The cookies are extremely popular in Spain, accounting for 40% of all cookies sold in the country. [1]
Marías were created by a small English bakery to celebrate the 1875 wedding of the Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia to Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The cookie still retains the word María stamped on top.
