Maria Barnas

Maria Barnas (NL, 1973) works as a writer, poet and artist. She has written two novels, ‘Ice Angels’ (1997), ‘The bather’ (2000) and a book of poetry called ‘Two suns’ (2003) published by De Arbeiderspers. ‘Two suns’ was awarded the Dutch prize for the best poetry debut 2003. She has written for theatre and has written a libretto for a chamber-music piece called ‘The Piano Lake’. Barnas writes articles on art and poetry for magazine De Groene Amsterdammer and newspaper De Volkskrant. Her art was shown at Fons Welters (Amsterdam) Galerie du Jour (Paris) and Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam).
