Mark Baxter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark Baxter (1951–May 30, 2005) was the director of the Maguire Energy Institute at SMU's Cox School of Business from 2001 until his death in 2005.
Born in Galesburg, Illinois, he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1974. Afterwards, he worked for the Marathon Oil Company, working especially in Russia and in the North Sea.
When Mark A. Baxter, former director of the Maguire Energy Institute, died of a heart attack last May, the Cox School lost a visionary leader, a patient and passionate teacher, a tireless ambassador, and a dear friend. Mark joined the Cox School in May 2001, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry from across the globe. Mark loved working directly with students, and he influenced many lives and careers with his knowledge. He also built the Institute’s reputation to one of international prominence by serving as a trusted, reliable source for the media who was regularly quoted as a renowned energy expert.
