Markovia (comics)

Markovia is a fictional nation in DC Comics, first mentioned in New Teen Titans #1, with the arrival of Terra.

Markovia is mentioned as being a nation close to the Russian border, ruled by the Markov family, of whom Terra was a daughter and thus a Princess of Markovia. However, when a socialist revolution began, the King of Markovia paid to grant his daughter safe passage to America, while he and the rest of his family perished.

While Terra was taken in by the Teen Titans, Markovia fell into the hands of the revolutionaries, and was absorbed into the Soviet Union in The New Teen Titans #4 issue.

In Amalgam Comics, Markovia was combined with Latveria to form Latkovia.

The story of Markovia appears to be heavily inspired by the story of the Romanov dynasty at the time of the Russian Revolution of 1917. The story of Terras' escape from Markovia seems to be heavily based on the story of Anastasia.
