Markus Brier
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Markus Brier (born 5 July 1968) is one of only a few international touring golfers produced by Austria, and as of 2006 is his country's highest ranked player.
He won the Swiss and German Amateur Opens in the mid 1990s and turned professional in 1995 at a relatively late age. A third place money list finish on the second tier Challenge Tour in 1999 won him a European Tour card, which he has retained through 2006. He twice won the Austrian Open during a period when it was a Challenge Tour event.
In 2006 the tournament was promoted back into the main European Tour schedule, now under the sponsored title BA-CA Golf Open, and Brier once again won on home soil. He was the first Austrian golfer to win a European Tour event. This led him to his best year-end finish on the Order of Merit of 49th.
