Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK; Tamil: மறுமலர்ச்சித் திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகம் ), a political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu formed in 1996. It is led by Vaiko. The party was a member of the National Democratic Alliance until the winter of 2003. But although the party was participating in the national NDA-government, Vaiko was arrested for 19 months under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Since the 2004 Lok Sabha elections the party is a member of the broad Tamil alliance, the Democratic Progressive Alliance, together with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Indian National Congress, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Indian Union Muslim League.
The party then broke off from the Democratic Progressive Alliance to join the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dalit Panthers of India to fight the 2006 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. THe split was a result of differences of opinion with the leader of the Democratic Progressive Alliance over seat sharing.
