Maslak
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maslak is one of the main business districts of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European side of the city. It is administered by the borough of Şişli, though being far north and actually closer to the boroughs of Beşiktaş and Sarıyer.
Maslak is in direct competition with the nearby Levent business district for new skyscraper projects, and the subway network which ends at "4. Levent" is currently being extended towards Maslak and beyond, which will enhance the district's attractiveness for future projects and investments.
At present, the tallest completed skyscraper in Maslak[1] is the 38-floor Sun Plaza[2], while the tallest skyscraper under construction in Maslak (as well as Istanbul and the rest of Turkey) is the Diamond of Istanbul[3], which is comprised of 3 centrally-connected towers, the tallest of which will have 53 floors above ground and will reach a height of 270m.
Diamond of Istanbul will also be the first steel skyscraper in Turkey, where (as opposed to the situation in the United States) constructing with steel costs more than constructing with concrete. The reason for choosing steel was its relative strength in dealing with earthquakes (Istanbul is an earthquake city) whereas concrete is more fire-resistant.
