Matteo Soragna

Matteo Soragna was born in Mantova, on December 26, 1975. He is an Italian basketball player. He plays as a small forward. He has a good three point shot, excellent defensive skills and a nice ballhandling, so if occurs he can also play as point guard or shooting guard.

He began in Cremona, where he played from 1993 to 1996, scoring in the last season 13.3 ppg. The following year he made his debut in Serie A playing for Rolly Pistoia.
He moved in 1998 from Tuscany to Sicily to join Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. He spent three years there and he reaches a promotion in Serie A2 in his last season, confirming him as a young talent.
He found an agreement in 2000 with Pallacanestro Biella. His period in Piemonte became precious because of the promotion in SerieA and in 2001 Soragna became also captain of the team.
In his last season in Biella in 2004 Matteo made 11.1 ppg, playing 32.9 minutes per game; his stats were 57.9% from the field, 39.1% three point shoot,80.6% free shoots, 2.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.6 assists.
Soragna moved for 2004/05 season to Benetton Treviso and he made also his debut in Euroleague. The following season he became also the captain of the time after the leaving of Denis Marconato, who joined Barcelona.
Matteo is a stable member of Italian national team since 2001, when he made his debut against Czech Republic in Brno, for European Championship qualifying match. In his national team career he won the bronze medal at European Championship held in 2003 in Sweden and the silver medal at Athens 2004.
