Matthew McCauley

Matthew McCauley (b. July 11, 1850, Owen Sound, Ontario - d. October 1930, Sexsmith, Alberta) was the first mayor of the city of Edmonton, and a provincial politician.
Matthew served as mayor of Edmonton from 1892 to 1894. He became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Northwest Territories in 1896 and served until 1902 when he was defeated.
He was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 1905 provincial election, when Alberta became a province and served until 1906 when he resigned to become the first warden for Edmonton Penitentiary.
The McCauley neighbourhood is named for him.
His great-grandson Matthew McCauley is an award winning record producer and composer.
