Mauer 1 is a fossilized lower jaw from the species Homo heidelbergensis. It was discovered in Mauer, Germany in 1907.
It is estimated to be 500,000 years old.
Its characteristics include a heavy jaw similar to Homo erectus but with teeth more similar to more modern humans.
