Max von Essen

Max von Essen (born 11 January 1975) is an American actor.
A son of Rita and Thomas von Essen, who was the New York City Fire Commissioner during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, he was born in New York City, the youngest of four children. His siblings are Pamela (Mrs. John Warren Keller), Erica, and Marc, a former policeman who is now a firefighter. His nephew, Mason Judge von Essen, the son of Lorette and Marc von Essen, was named for Rev. Mychal Judge, a Roman Catholic priest and Fire Department of New York chaplain who died in the terrorist attacks.
Von Essen attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and after graduation, began touring with Liza Minnelli. He then toured Europe in West Side Story and was a cast member of the U.S. national tour of Chicago, portraying the character "Mary Sunshine" (a role played by a man in drag).
His Broadway debut was in 2000 in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.
