Metropolitan Board of the Chicago Urban League
The Metropolitan Board of the Chicago Urban League (MetroBoard)is the official Young Professionals auxiliary of the Chicago Urban League. It is a member of the National Urban League Young Professionals. The organization meets on a monthly basis at the Chicago Urban League, 4510 South Michigan Avenue, in the Bronzeville neighborhood in Chicago.
Founded in 1983, when the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Urban League, James Compton, reached out to a young, up and coming professional named John Rogers, Jr., who during the same time started Ariel Capital Management, LLC. The challenge President Compton issued to Mr. Rogers was to gather a group of promising young professionals in the Chicagoland area and harness that energy into the Urban League movement through professional development, community service, social activities, and affiliation with the Chicago Urban League.
The mission of the MetroBoard is promoting and supporting the ideas and goals of the Urban League movement throughout Chicago through community outreach, fundraising and membership development. The organization service as a community outreach vehicle, a social gathering of focused professionals and a leadership development entity.
Some of the award winning community outreach programs the MetroBoard engages in and partners in include: Teen Summit, Tech Day, Know Your Money, Second Chance for Success, The Living Room Cafe, and Habitat for Humanity
