Meatcake
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A meatcake is simply a meatloaf that is designed to appear as if it were actually a traditional cake. Meatcakes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the most common is the birthday cake themed meatcake. Traditionally three layers of meatloaf (made according to the chef's own recipe) are prepared, baked, and allowed to cool. The meatloafs are then shaped to the liking of the chef-artist. The cakes are then stacked (typically three high) and sauce or gray of the chef's choice is placed between the layers to augment its cake-like appearance. Most meatcake makers choose a ketchup based sauce as inter-layer filling. Presentation of the meatloaf as a cake is accomplished by spreading whipped mashed potatoes around the exterior of the cake in a fashion akin to cake icing. Candles or toppings may then be added as appropriate.
