Meir Nitzan

Meir Nitzan is (as of 2006) the mayor of Rishon LeZion, Israel, currently serving his 5th term. Nitzan has served as mayor since 1983, and has survived four elections. He has served more than 20 years in office and considered to be one of the most active mayors in Israel and Rishon's history. During his terms, the "New West" of Rishon was built.
In the Israeli Defence Forces, Nitzan reached the rank of Brigadier-General.
There have been several serious allegations of misconduct and administrative corruption against the municipality of Rishon LeZion during his term. These are currently being tried in a court of law.
