[edit] Film Career
In 2004 Michael Blevins first began his film career with the debut of Beowulf, a short comedy based the epic poem. Though his talents were rough and edgy, he continued with his work. His next short film debut was in 2004 titled Underground Politics. Blevins' abilities had increased, but not to anything satisfying. Not knowing anything about filmmaking, Blevins wrote and directed a full length feature western genre film titled Wess Slidely in 2004.
In 2004 Blevins submitted the script for Wess Slidely the Kansas City Filmmaker's Jubilee He won best script and was invited to attend a class on screenplay writing, under the direction of Andy Anderson. While taking the class, Blevins made friends and business relations with French filmmaker Kartik Singh. After multiple reflection periods with Anderson, Blevins decided to rewrite the script for Wess Slidely, and possibly film the feature again.
In 2005 Blevins submitted a horror short film, In the Dark, and his rewrite of Wess Slidely to the two week longTulsa University Filmmaking and Screenwriting Course under the direction of Michael Wright (University of Tulsa) and Jeff Van Hanken (Oklahoma University). During the summer course, Blevins wrote and filmed a short horror/drama titled Angie and the Vampire, and wrote a screenplay for a science fiction film titled Computer. Computer never was made into a film.
In 2005, only two months after Blevins attended the courses in Tulsa, he put together a team of himself, James Lewis, and Kelly Odneal who traveled to Des Moines Iowa to compete in the 48 hour film project. They received an award for best use of prop for their film Murders od Madison County Blevins was then offered a job through Love INC to make a documentary on the homeless. He worked with other organizations such as Prudential, and Freedom House. The film debut took place at the Liberty 12 Cinema and raised over two million dollars.
In 2006, with the help of David Young, Blevins decided to reshoot Wess Slidely. He held auditions in the performance room on February 14th, 2006. Blevins started shooting Wess Slidely again in March of 2006, but did not make the deadline of August, 2006, and had to drop the project despite it's progress.
In September of 2006, Blevins wrote a full length feature comedy titled Shoe Store. Shoe Store will be filmed and produced in the future, but for the time being is locked away. Currently, Blevins is working on a new script, roughly based off of Wess Slidely, but in more modern times titled Phelps Ave. The feature is in the preproduction stage, and is expected to begin filming in August, 2007.
[edit] Music Career
In 2002 Blevins began to learn guitar. His main influences at the time were bands like Nirvana and Blink 182, but later his style was more influenced by The Beatles and blues artists like Eric Clapton and B.B. King.
In 2004 Blevins created the band Fogbitten with fellow musician drummer Jeff Fitzpatrick. It was more of a side band for Fitzpatrick, until Fogbitten broke up four months later. In 2005 Blevins and Fitzpatrick rejoined again, with Fitzpatrick's girlfriend at the time Alix Wiggins, who played bass guitar. The group was called J.A.M. after the beginning letter of each band member's first name. The band only played a few performances, which was mostly classic rock.
In 2005 Fitzpatrick and Christopher Smith created a side ska band. They asked Blevins to play bass, and a vocalist by the name of Kelly Macintosh to sing. To Blevins' disliking he agreed to play bass. The band never had a name, and mainly covered No Doubt songs. The band eventually broke up due to lack of communication.
In 2006 Fitzpatrick and Wiggins ended their relationship, turning what was once J.A.M. into J.M. Blevins and Fitzpatrick played one show in Truro, Iowa that was not very succesful, and ended the bands all together. The two get together to play from time to time, but never start anything. In 2007 Blevins created a solo band called The Michael Blevins Experience but later changed it's name to Disciples of Rock.
