Michelle Jacques

Michelle Jacques is an American singer, who began studying acting, modern dance, tap, ballet and violin, beginning at the early age of seven. Michelle is currently the Artistic Director of CHELLE! and Friends, and is an elementary and middle school conductor for the Oakland Youth Chorus. Michelle’s numerous professional musical credits as one of the original members of the Street Sounds a cappella quintet include: children’s concerts, residencies and workshops with the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures in Music (A.I.M.), Young Audiences; Oakland Youth Chorus’ Music in the Schools; Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Children’s Concert Series, Brooklyn, New York; The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Children’s Concert Series, Washington D.C.; Alaska Junior Theater, Anchorage, Alaska.
Along with members of Street Sounds, Michelle has toured throughout the United States and Europe including, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France and Korea. Michelle performed in Geneva, Switzerland with Chic Street Man, for the United Nations World Conference of Human Rights, The Montreux Jazz Festival, The Gurten Music Festival, and The Berne Jazz Festival. Michelle has performed with and along side many well known artists including: The Manhattan Transfer, Dorian Harewood, Bruce Vilanch, Wynton Marsalis, Zapp Mama, Linda Hopkins, John Handy, Robert Cray, Chick Corea, Brock Peters, Ladysmith Black Mambaza, Pete Seger, Al Greene, and The Persuasions.
Michelle’s acting career began as a voice-acting student at the prestigious Voice Factory in San Francisco. Michelle’s on-screen acting credits include: featured roles in the movie, “Close So Far” and “Midnight Kings”, co-star in the movie “There She Goes”, all produced by Jerica Productions.
Michelle’s numerous professional musical credits include: winner of the 1995 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA) for writer of the “Best Folk/Progressive Song”, “Home Africa”; featured artist for the Women in Music Month concert Series at the Oakland Box Theater, spoken word arrangements and music for poets devorah Majors and Opal Adisa Palmer of “Daughters of Yam”, and Michelle was an original member of Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir. Michelle is also currently performing with The Kelly Takunda Orphan Project.
