Mick Wadsworth

Michael 'Mick' Wadsworth (born 3 November 1950 in Yorkshire, UK) is an English football coach, who currently has a role at Scottish club Gretna.

Wadsworth was, for a very short time, a player. But with his league playing experience limited to around 20 appearances for Scunthorpe United in the 1976-77 season, it is for coaching that he is best known.

Wadsworth is well respected amongst his peers in the game. With 20 years of coaching experience, he has worked for long periods with the FA and with respected manager Bobby Robson. Wadsworth has also been sought to fill roles as assistant manager to experienced and inexperienced managers alike. He has worked in coaching roles in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. However, things have not always gone well for Wadsworth or the clubs he has coached. Due to the frequent and sudden departures from the English clubs for which he has worked, (often getting sacked for under-performing) Wadsworth has an acrimonious relationship with certain supporters, spawning internet hate sites.

A Non-league playing career with clubs including Gainsborough Trinity and Mossley ended at Frickley Athletic, where Wadsworth was player-manager. Wadsworth was then employed by the FA until starting a club management career in 1993.

Was offered a coaching role at PSV Eindhoven, but couldn't accept due to lack of Dutch coaching credentials.
August 1993: Appointed Carlisle United manager.
Carlisle finish 7th in Division Three (English IV).
Carlisle lose in playoffs semi-final.

Carlisle lose in Auto Windscreens Trophy final to Birmingham City.
Carlisle finish 1st in Division Three (English IV).

Carlisle start season badly. Resigns after a few games.
January 1996: Becomes assistant to the inexperienced Gary Megson at Norwich City.
Norwich finish 16th of 24 in Division One (English II).

June 1996: Appointed Scarborough manager.
Scarborough finish 12th in Division Three. (English IV)

Works with Steve Coppell at Crystal Palace for two weeks.
September 1999: Becomes assistant manager to Bobby Robson at Newcastle United.

June 2001: Becomes assistant manager to Stuart Gray at Southampton, leaving without telling Robson.
November 2001: Sacked (with Stuart Gray) after a very poor start to the season.
December 2001: Appointed manager of Oldham Athletic.
Oldham finish 9th in Division Two. (English III).
May 2002: Sacked from Oldham.

July 2002: Appointed manager of Huddersfield Town.
January 2003: Sacked. Cannot agree severance payment with cash-strapped Huddersfield and is reinstated.
March 2003: Sacked from Huddersfield.

November 10, 2003: Appointed manager of Democratic Republic of Congo ahead of African Nations Cup.
February 1, 2004: Congo eliminated after losing all 3 matches.
February 2, 2004: Sacked from "The Simbas".

September 2004: Leaves Beira-Mar amid claims of boardroom interference.
January 19, 2005: Becomes assistant manager to Gary Peters at Shrewsbury Town.
Shrewsbury finish 21st in League Two. (English IV).

August 2005: Shrewsbury start season poorly.
March 27, 2006: Wadsworth leaves Shrewsbury Town (in 13th position) to pusue a managerial career of his own.

July 4, 2006: Appointed director of club development at Gretna F.C. ahead of their first season in the Scottish Football League First Division.
