Mickey and Amelia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mickey and Amelia is a local radio show that broadcasts out of Baltimore, Maryland, on WIYY, "98 rock" (97.9 FM). The morning show runs from Monday thru Friday from 5:30-10am, starring Mickey Cucchiella and "Amelia" with their producer Scott Reardon. Mickey is characterized as being the "funny one" while Amelia plays the straight man (or woman in this case).
Running jokes include Mickey's height, being referred to as a "midget' on a regular basis. He is also referred to (often by himself) as being bigoted, racist, and sexist, although most instances are played off as being jokes with Mickey making fun of himself, his heritage, his height or his upbringing in Baltimore as ways to lessen the outrageousness of some of his comments. Running jokes with Amelia include her weight, Mickey refers to her being fat, or her "fat ass", which is only considered appropriate because she has lost a significant amount of weight in the past few years, and thus is not "fat" anymore. She's also a "biker chick" which is a source of many jokes by Mickey. Scott, who is not an official "host" of the show is at the very least, considered an honorary one, with the ability to speak up and add input into the show when ever he feels it necessary. The biggest running gag is the size of Scott's nose. Being referred to by Mickey and to a lesser extent, Amelia by names such as Snosquach.
Amelia's last name is never given on the show, but on television interviews, she is credited as "Amelia Ryerse." Nevertheless, she prefers to keep her private life separate from her very public life on the radio. Her current boyfriend/partner is never named, and is only referred to as "Hercules", a homage to his manliness. He is a biker and considered a "Man's Man" by both Mickey and Scott, who both respect him and jokingly make fun of him on a regular basis. Mickey and Scott as time progressed began to make "Hercules" into a caricature of himself. Doing impressions of him with a drawn out Southern style accent where "Hercules" refers to himself in the first person while basically ripping off Chuck Norris Facts. The "Hercules facts" became so frequently used on the show, that for a period of time Amelia banned all talk of her boyfriend from the show, which didn't last very long, however. Mickey and Scott now keep the "Hercules" jokes down to a minimum.
Chuck Bronco is a running gag started on the show stereotyping the typical radio DJ. Mostly voiced by Scott the producer, Chuck Bronco has many inflections in his voice, and like the "Hercules" impressions, refers to himself in the thirdperson. Chuck Bronco thinks many things are stupid "Chuck Bronco thinks ______ is stupid."
