[edit] Mickey Dee

The Youngest Caucasion Hip-Hop Artist To Produce/Mix/Write/Record An Entirely Original Full Length Record

Mickey Dee was born Mike Barr in Portland, Oregon. He is now a sophomore at his current highschool and is only 15 years old, claiming to never have dreamed he would amount to this much. He started out making music in a hideous pop band, but slowly realized that rap was his ally when he first discovered the Slim Shady EP and Word of Mouf in his elementary school days. A computer hacker he knew provided him with the programs he needed, while his dad, a recording artist, revealed to him vintage recording equipment, featuring an old mixing board and an SM58 Shure Brand Mcrophone to record with, but left him to discover recording and mixing on his own.

In his 7th grade year, he began a secret group that he told no one about called "Stranger With Candy", where he and few others recorded their raps and beat boxes. They released a low-budget, poorly written and recorded CD called "Starting Early". Later, at age 13, he secretly collaborated with Local Artist R2, and they produced their first joke Hip-Hop CD, "Romeo's Farewell" in the rap group they called "The Phat Electric Rap Queens", or the "P.E.R.Q.s". Only 20 copies of the album remain in print today.

Mike never revealed his secret Hip-Hop-Hobby even to his closest friends until his Freshman year in highschool, when rap was more widely accepted, especially by his mainly white-oriented school. At this point, Mike was in a joking, denial stage of his rap, knowing he was white, and had no misfortunes in life, and the kids at school thought his music was hilarious as well. He even challenged one of his highschool enemies to a Rap Battle Of Death, which took place in the school halls during lunch hours. Over 50 of his classmates came to watch with video cameras and cell phones in hand, and the school staff was not able to break up the battle because of the number of kids, all rooting for the winner. Mike, winning the battle with ease, decided to call himself Mickey Dee, based on a childhood nickname, and the corny, fake appeal of his rap music (relating to a certain fast food restaurant).

He began rapping about doing drugs he didn't do, and comitting crimes he didn't commit, to irritate his "fans" because he did not want to be taken seriously. So, he released his first single, The Original Wanksta EP, to prove to Portland that he was only a joke. Several of his songs insult Mac Dre, and more popular artists at his school, to make another attempt to piss people off. His attempts succeed daily, as he commonly gets hate mail.

Now Mickey is making rap music full time, and is creating his own beats, tunes, rapping, singing, playing guitar and collaborating with underground artists such as Dubb D, Lewy, Frost, beatboxer Kumo, and even a live band, The Party Police, in his spare time to release his first completely real and legal album, "The BarrCode". He will even be re-creating and mixing some of his old songs from the "Phat Electric Rap Queen" days to fit on his album.

For instance, his featured myspace song, "Three Lies" was created in his 8th grade year, but instead entitled as "F**k 'Em". He re-wrote some of the lyrics, added more interesting elements to the music, and even re-recorded it all to stay true to himself. The song can be found on his website, (Visit Mickey Dee's Myspace) and is now based around how he lies about things he doesn't do in his music to rebel against his own limited audience. This remains a central theme of his new album The BarrCode, expressing how Mickey feels about modern Society. Many of his songs are even mockeries of modern high school trends and hip-hop music.

When he released his first official album single "I'm White" on his website, a Portland Radio DJ, discovered the rapper, and realizing his potential, played his song several times on a local radio station. Gaining many new listeners and fans from this, Mickey Dee is now in the process of finishing his highly anticipated album, which will be released at the end of September, At this rate, according to statistics and records, Mickey will be the first and youngest white rapper to succesfully produce/mix/record/write/master and independantly release a full length record in The United States Of America.

For this, he also has earned a place in Wikipedia's Most Famous Portland Residents Article, along with Art Alexis, Courtney Love, Cool Nutz," and "The Kingsmen, and is also mentioned by his full name for his personal creative achievements in filmmaking (Dark Dark Secret, Ollie To The Top, Airforce Ones), guitarist and singer (The House Wives, The Party Police), actor (Romeo in "Romeo & Juliet"), and cartoonist (Spiffy Comics), alongside Gus Van Sant, Danny Glover, and WIll Vinton. Currently, his fanbase is expecting a 3.5/4 star album based on internet polls, and he will be expected to gain publicity through MTV and VH1 very soon.

According to sources, possible plans for the future include an Ep entitled "Mike's Barr & Grill", a second album based on a similar theme as The Barrcode (focusing more, however, on rock/rap), and a rare, limited release CD featuring all of Mickey Dee's original rap music from "Strangers WIth Candy" and "The Phat Electric Rap Queens".
