User talk:MichelletheLibrarian
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thank you for your contribution to UC Merced. If you'll notice, yours is the latest in a half-dozen attempts to add boilerplate public relations material to the library entry. The previous users were all anonymous. I notice that you're one of the librarians at UC Merced. It's wonderful that you're contributing to Wikipedia but please realize that this kind of addition--unmindful of the fact that it is similar to previous revisions, is neither collaborative nor, ultimately, informative. If you feel that the information you've cut-and-pasted into the entry is valuable, then please take the time to discuss it on the talk page for UC Merced. As a librarian, you know how important it is not to confuse marketing material with information, and I'm sure you don't think that terms like "impressive" have much place in an encyclopedia entry, nor do the proscriptions: "Remember: Google is great, but not everything can be found there. When you find a website and want to cite it, ask yourself who wrote it and why? The librarians are there to help you - all you need to do is ask." This is not the website for the UC Merced Library, after all. Elijahmeeks 22:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] UC Merced Library
Please see the talk page discussion about the library-related text you have been repeatedly adding, at Talk:University of California, Merced#Library. szyslak (t, c, e) 23:45, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- In your edit summary for your latest revert, you said "Information will be reviewed by University Administration". What exactly do you mean? Are you claiming that you officially represent the University and/or that they have any right to control the article's content? Because that's not how Wikipedia works. Like all Wikipedia articles, this is freely editable, and is not subject to control by outside entities. szyslak (t, c, e) 00:24, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Also, I'd like to remind you that this is not about how I feel about UC Merced or its library. I've never been to either. I am also not criticizing the quality of your writing or the truth of your statements. The only issues I have are with its appropriateness for Wikipedia. If you really, really feel your text belongs in the article, you are free to propose policy changes on the talk pages of WP:NPOV and WP:NOT. szyslak (t, c, e) 00:28, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] AfD Nomination: The UC Merced Library
I've nominated the article The UC Merced Library for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that The UC Merced Library satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The UC Merced Library. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of The UC Merced Library during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion.TheLetterM 02:16, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
